Red Ribbon Week began in 1986. It began when Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Agent, was killed. He was assigned to a case in Mexico. He was kidnapped, tortured and killed before identifying the leaders of the illegal drug business in Mexico.
Because of Kiki's death the people of his hometown wore red ribbons. Every year from October 23-31, millions of people celebrate healthy living by wearing a red ribbon. So we can remember the man who fell.
