"Depressants"

By Nicholas W. and Sean G.

What are depressants?

Depressants are drugs that depress people.  They are drugs that slow down functions in the body. Usually these are taken to calm a person down, or help that person sleep.

What are some examples of depressants?

Some examples would be tranquilizers, barbiturates, inhalants and chloral hydrate.

  What are they usually called?

Some slang terms would be redbirds, peanuts, V's, yellows and blue devils.

How do they affect the body?

One way that they affect the body is that they cause sleep disorders.  If an overdose is taken, it may cause death.  If you try to get off, you could die.
