The giant squid has very large and intelligent eyes. They have ten arms, but two of them are longer then the other arms.  Giant squids have sharp beak like mouths and powerful jaws.  They swim backwards faster than some animals can swim forwards. The giant squid is a relative to octopuses and cuttlefish.  Their arms are lined with rows of suckers with horny rings around them.  The giant squids body is tinted and spotted with changing colors. If the giant squid is under attack it will squirt out incline fluids, so they can run away when they squirt there ink. The squids arms are as big as a mans thigh.  Its body is inside a shell that has a shape somewhat like an ice-cream cone.  Their eyes are as much as 40 cm wide.  The giant squid are the favorite food of big sperm whales.  There are terrible battles when a big whale meets a giant squid.  The squid wraps its long arms around the whale and squeezes.  Most of the time the whale wins the fight and eats the squid.  Many whales have been seen with marks of a giant squid's arms on theirbodies.   

Where it lives       

      The giant squid lives in the depths of the oceans and seas and in the coastal waters around Europe and Canada and they sometimes live in Monterey.  There are only three open spaces in the sea with giant squids.     

What it eats   
     
Giant Squids eat shrimp and smaller fish ,they also eat larger sea animals giant squids eat with a large beak somewhat like parrots when it clamps down the creature doesn't bleed much because of all the pressure in less it falls a part.  Gaint squids are eaten by sperm  whales.     
    

How big it is   
   
 A giant squid can grow to be 60` long which is a little bit longer then 10 average men or 6 ceilings, WOW, that's as big as a hubcap.  Remains of giant squids have been found and the legs  are a little over 50` long. That is a little over 48 pop cans.    
            

Stories about giant squids     
        
In 1861, a french corvette attacked a 25-foot squid with a cannon and a riflemen person had a part of a giant squid in his freezer. Since no one had ever tasted the a giant squid before he decided to try it.  When he tasted it ,it was bittern one has ever seen a giant squid in its natural habitat before.  For about 30 years scientists have been putting bits and pieces information about the giant squid together to find out were they live.       

Long ago, people believed in sea monsters.  One of the monsters was called Kraken.  People said it had ten arms and was so big it could swallow a whole ship.  Today, we know there is no such thing as a kraken, but  there really are animals somewhat like the kraken.  One of them is the giant squid.  The live in the deep seas.
