Kevin's Taiko Experience

These are my memories of Taiko... I learned to say words and numbers in Japanese. 1 is Ichi 2 is Ni 3 is San 4 is Shi and 5 is goo. Sura means begin again.

Every day Clayton and I helped Ester, the Taiko lady, unload the Taiko drums out of her van. Some drums were heavy and some were light some were small and some big.

When it was close to the end of Taiko we made masks for the big Taiko performance. My mask was made first out of the whole class.

The way we stand to play Taiko is just bending our knees. When we played the Taiko drums we had to hold the sticks without using thumbs.

The two songs we practiced were Bicentennial Bayashi and Silk Daiko. Bicentennial Bayashi Esther made for us to play at the big Taiko performance.

This is what happened at the beginning of Taiko... My favorite drum was a big black drum with a picture of a dragon on it. Out of the whole Taiko playing I liked Bicentennial Bayashi.

Taiko drums are different because they're bigger then regular drums and louder then regular drums.

I was excited when I started to play Taiko because it was the first instrument I got to learn. First when I played Taiko I wasn't real good but everyday I got better.

When I first saw the Taiko drum I thought it was a regular drum. Everyday I went to Taiko I got hungry earlier and my head hurt.

This is what I was learning in Taiko... When I began Taiko it was fun. By the end, Taiko started to get boring. When I played Taiko I sometimes went fast. Sometimes when I played Taiko I forgot lines. At the Taiko performance the drumstick fell out of my hand.

Now it is over... when I began Taiko I wasn't real good at it but I got better everyday. I am still willing to play Taiko even if it is over.

When Taiko was over I still wanted to play Taiko. Now I can play Taiko the best I have ever played Taiko.

Now that Taiko is over we are going to have another performance on Martin Luther King day at the Martin Luther King Parade.

I will remember in Taiko the most is... How big the drums where.

I will remember the two songs that we played in Taiko. Bicentennial Bayashi and Silk Daiko where the two songs we learned. Esther told us how Taiko started.

I will remember how scared I was when it was time for the big performance.
