April 15,1865 Andrew Johnson becomes President after the assassination of President Lincoln	October 5, 1998 The Judiciary Committee makes a decision to start an investigation to find out if there is a need to impeach President Clinton.
February 1866 Johnson vetoes the Freedman Bureau Bill which upsets members of Congress	October 8, 1998 The Judiciary Committee begins a search to see if President Clinton has committed " high crimes and misdemeanors as stated in the U. S. Constitution"
February 1867 Congress passes a bill to keep the President from removing an officer approved by the Senate without its permission.	December 11-12, 1998 The House Judiciary Committee adopts four articles of impeachment against President Clinton.
August 12,1867 President Johnson removes Secretary of War from office without Congress's permission	December 19, 1998 President Clinton is impeached by the House of Representatives.
January,1868 Johnson replaces Secretary of War with Lorenzo Thomas	January 7, 1999 The U.S. Senate begins the impeachment trial of President Clinton
February 24,1868 The House approves of an impeachment plan	January 14, 1999 The U. S. House team begins to plead their case against President Clinton
March 30,1868 The impeachment trial of President Johnson begins in the Senate	January 19, 1999 The White House team begins to defend their case in behalf of President Clinton
