I was born in Southampton Country, Virginia on July 15, 1817. My father was Captain Peter Blow, who owned a Virginia Plantation on which Dred Scott was born a slave. In 1830, he moved to St. Louis with me and his other five children.

When I was thirteen, I came to St. Louis and attended the St. Louis University for two years. I had a partnership with Charless and we manufactured and sold paints, oils, and drugs. The partnership broke apart after awhile. After the Civil War, I looked for other business opportunities.

In 1840, I married Minerva Grimsley, the daughter of wealthy saddle manufacturer, Thorton Grimsley. I came back to St. Louis in 1871 hoping to retire. My wife, Minerva, died June 1875. I died on the eleventh of September. My monument reads, "Be still and know that I am God".
