Rain Forest Birds

There are more than 1,000 species of birds in the Amazon. These are some names of birds in the Rain Forest.

 

The Antbird is one of the only birds that lives in the understory, but some live in the canopy. They mostly eat insects because the fruits are up in the trees where they seldom go.

 

The Budgerigar is black, yellow and green. They fly in large flocks and never are alone. 
  The Cock of the rock is a red and black bird.The Cock has a fan of feathers hanging down over his bill so it makes it hard for him to eat. a gold-yellow bird. 

 

The Harpy Eagle looks like an owl with 5 or 6 feathers on the top of it's head. His head is almost round. The Harpy Eagle is the largest eagle in the world, he is three and one half feet tall.

 

The Black-cheeked Lovebird, Fisher's Love and the Madagascar Lovebirds have all different colors. Most of these kinds of parrots have white beaks . As you can see lots of parrots are called Lovebirds

 

Yellow - naped Macaws are bright green and blue. There are also blue and yellow Macaws. Did you know macaws are members of the parrot group. Macaws feed almost only on palm nuts. There are about 5 species of Macaws.
  A Yellow-Tailed Parrot is very small, yellow and white. Some parrots have white feathers even though you can't see them. These birds live in the canopy.

 

The Quztzal perches to eat. They love almost all fruits and they are green and red Their favorite thing is a wild avocado. The avocado has a seed as hard a cherry seed. A Qutzal has a very soft stomach..

 

Toucans have many colors. There are rainbow toucans that have a rainbow colored bill. Their bills can be very sharp so that they can pick the fruit out of the trees.
