Plate Tectonics/ Continental Drift

Have you ever looked at a map and noticed that the borders of the continents match up? Well guess what? You just noticed a scientific theory.

For exaple the eath coast of South America matches up with the west coast of Africa.

Let us explain, the earth once had one land mass, called Pangea. This land mass broke up into large pieces which have since drifted apart. Pangea means, "All Earth" so the name is very appropriate.

But you may ask, "How do such bug things move?"

To answer your question, Continental Drift. At first, this theory contradicted the common beliefs, people used to think the continents were fixed in their places.

How can we prove it? Well her are some things, fossils, types of rock, and types of plants. Let me sum it up for you. These things are on completly different plates, yet they are almost identical. There is no way that animals and most plant seeds could have traveled over so much water. Now if there was once one big plate, the animals that were in Europe only had to walk a little way and they could go from what we now call Europe to what we now call North America, thus proving the theory of tectonic plates and, Continental Drift.
