Life As Queen

Queen Elizabeth I was very popular with the public. She made several appearances. She received many gifts and had many entertainers. The English people waited to see who Elizabeth would marry. There were rumors that she had murdered Amy Rosbart, Robert Dudley's wife, to marry Robert. This rumor was started by Mary, the Queen of Scots. Robert did propose to her, but people were surprised and shocked to see that she turned his proposal down. In England, it was unheard of for a queen to not marry. Elizabeth promised herself that she would remain a virgin for the rest of her life. The reason for this decision is unknown. The position to be Elizabeth's husband was up for grabs. Because of this, England had her first peace era in a long time. Countries dared not invade England because the princes of that country were trying to receive Elizabeth's hand in marriage. Elizabeth was the "Queen Bee." In other words, she was the center of everything in the court. If she arose at four o'clock in the morning and retired at twelve o'clock, then everyone else would have to do the same. She would have separate servants to inspect every piece of apparel that she planned to wear. Elizabeth certainly had a very full schedule!

Elizabeth accomplished a very big feat by not making religion an issue. She would refuse to have a conversation about the subject. This stopped riots because no one could be against the Queen.

She also had a policy that any English person had to have permission from the Queen to marry. She would match many people together even is it was not what they wanted. She threw Walter Raleigh into the Tower for marrying one of her Maids of Honor. Elizabeth was well liked and was very successful during her reign.
