Escape Time!

In 1833, Harriet married a man named John Tubman. He was a free slave, yet she was not free. We are not sure, but he was probably part of what made her escape. Even if this is true, the first time she escaped, in 1849, he did not come with her. After she made the trip, she returned to Maryland to help other slaves escape. On every trip she brought two things: a gun and faith in God. She brought a gun because she threatened to kill anyone who turned back. She brought her faith in God so that God was always with her. Her trips were around 1850, and every single time, no one caught her.
