WHAT REALLY DID HAPPEN TO AMELIA?

Mrs. Josephine Akiyama remembered that she was in Saipan when she was eleven and she saw a couple being led into the woods by Japanese solders. She heard gun shots and the soldiers came out alone. She didn't think much about it until she later saw a picture of Amelia and Fred and knew that she had seen them before. She later realized that they were the couple she saw in Saipan. Two of the many people that were interested in what happened to Amelia were Fred Goerner and Vincent Loomis. They searched for her and finally concluded what her last flight was like.

Amelia and Fred left Nauru and were blown off course. They thought they were near Howland and decided to land in the Gilbert islands. They were actually well north of Howland and landed on the Marshall islands (which were run by the Japanese) instead. The Japanese imprisoned them and Amelia and Fred were believed to be spies. They were taken to Jaluit, and then to Saipan, where Mrs. Akiyama saw them. They were thought to have been kept in prison and to have died of either disease or have been executed.

Although Amelia Earhart died, her dream still lives on. Perhaps you will be the one who will try something no one has ever done.
