BASKETBALL

Basketball is a fast, non-contact sport between two teams. There are 5 playing players on the court
and 5 substitute players. The game starts with one person (usually the tallest) from each team in a center
circle. The referee throws the ball up and the two players jump in the air to try to tip the ball to a teammate.
This is called a jump ball. The players dribble (bounce the ball with one hand) or pass the ball down the court
to their basket or hoop. Referees watch for fouls, such as pushing, holding, tripping orhitting any player. These
are personal fouls and may result in a free throw or possession of the ball. Other rules broken, such as
traveling (walking without dribbling the ball) or double dribble (dribbling then stopping the dribbling again) will
result in the offending team losing possession of the ball. Other fouls are when a player or coach wastes time,
argues or unfairly distracts an opposing player. These are technical fouls and result in free throws and
possession.  To score points, the ball must travel through the basket from top down through the net. From
inside a semi circle is 2 points, from outside the semicircle is 3 points, and a free throw is one point.
