The tiger is the largest member of the cat family and has strength and beauty. All people are scared of this powerful animal but it is not their will to attack people unless they are forced to or if food is scarce.
The home of the tiger is in parts of Asia and in the Rain Forests of Thailand. It used to be found in Iran and Pakistan but was kicked out should I say and is now gone. These hardy animals only need three things to survive, shade ,water, and food.
The body of a tiger is big and strong. The males weigh about 420 pounds and are 9ft long including a 3ft long tail. Females are smaller at about 300 pounds and about 8ft long. A tiger's coat is from a brownish to a gold color and has black stripes. No stripe pattern or tigers are the same. It also has whitish fur on the throat, belly, and insides of the legs. The eyes of the tiger are a bright yellow color. In breeding if you cross a tiger and a lion you would get a liger or a tigon.
The tiger will eat many things such as deer, antelope, domestic and wild cattle, and wild pigs. They can also eat smaller animals such as peafowl, monkeys, and frogs! The tiger usually hunts at night and has wonderful night vision. Its sharp, keen vision also helps it hunt down its prey. When the tiger catches the food it uses its sharp upper claws to pull it down to the ground. Tigers can run very fast for short distances but like anything after a while it will start to tire out and become slow. Very powerful neck, forelegs, and shoulders help it run at a fast pace. Some tigers will swim for prey and can climb trees but don't usually. The tiger is so strong it can carry a 500 pound buffalo for up to 1/4 a mile. These beautiful animals can eat 50 pounds of meat a night.
A tigers life consists of hunting, mating, and sleeping. One tiger lives alone although they are friendly towards each other. A males territory will over lap two females territory. When a tiger will roar, it can be heard from two miles away.
A tigress will give birth a about age 3 1/2 to 4 years of age. One to six cubs can be born but the usual is 3-4. When the babies are born they weigh from two to three pounds. The average life span of a tiger is estimated at 20 years and can be more or less. The tigers are one of the many cats that live in the rain forest.
