Gecko

The Gecko is a type of lizard with 675 species. Geckos live in forests, swamps, and deserts. It is mainly a nocturnal animal. They can range from 2in. to over 1 foot. Most of them are between 3 to 6 in. They have soft skin with minute scales. Their feet are made so they can climb anywhere even upside down on a ceiling. The Gecko has large eyes that are lidless and beautifully colored. They use their tongues as a windshield wipers to clean the transparent cover of the eye.

The male Geckos tend to fight among themselves. Part of the tail is often lost in these fights because of this the Geckos tail has undergone some changes. For example it breaks away easily when snatched by a predator, some have tails that look like caterpillars to distract predators from the head end and some have tails that look like leaves.

The female Gecko usually lays two eggs. Some lay soft- shell eggs others lay hard-shell. Incubation time varies from species to species but the average time is between 50 and 70 days. The eggs are fairly large and when the embryo hatches the length of the baby is between a third and a half that of its parent. The young Gecko grow rapidly and most of them breed before they are one year old. Once they have breed they grow at a slow rate.

The Gecko is interesting animal.
