Abraham Lincoln
1809-1865
Abraham Lincoln was one of the few presidents that was not only just a president, but a
peacemaker. Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves on January 1, 1863, when he declared
the Emancipation Proclimation. On November 19, 1863, at Cemetery Hill, Gettysburg,
Pennsylvania, millions of Americans heard Abraham Lincoln read the Gettysburg
Address. The following is an excerpt from the Gettysburg Address."FOURSCORE AND
SEVEN YEARS AGO OUR FORE FATHERS BROUGHT FORTH ON THIS CONTINENT A NEW NATION, CONCIEVED
IN LIBERTY AND DEDICATED TO THE PROPOSITION THAT ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL."
This changed America forever. Without Abraham Lincoln, slavery would stll be an
issue to this very day .
