    Houdini was a great magician.  He knew in his heart he had super natural powers.  That would explain his magic.  He asked other magicians how they performed their magic.  They all said anyone could learn their magic, but Houdini said that his tricks were not like that.  He really believed he had super natural powers!  Houdini will probably stay a mystery, because we can't figure out how he performed his magic.
 

    Many people say that they can "see" the future in their sleep.  Because people say this, scientists decided to build dream laboratories.  They asked all kinds of people to come and sleep in the laboratory.  Scientists aren't interested in seeing the future.  They want to see if people have "ESP" in their dreams.  One of the experiments that scientists use is that they would hold a picture facing them.  The "guinea pig" would try to dream about the picture.  ESP is still not understood, but scientists are learning all they can about it.

    There are detectives that are psychics.  Their work is mysterious.  There is a story about William Van Derk.  This man was shot twice but the police could not find out who shot him.  They believed that his step-father did it but they didn't have the weapon and couldn't find it.  They called on Peter Hurok.  He is a detective who is a psychic.  He told them to look on the man's roof.  Sure enough, there was the weapon and it had his step-father's fingerprints on it!
 

    Healers, can they really heal?  Nobody can answer that question.  Only some people have this physical, spiritual, and mental gift.  They heal by using their hands.  Some people believe there is actually such a thing, but others may not.
 
 

    Out of body experiences are the feeling of leaving one's body to travel.  During OBE's (Out of Body Experiences) people claim to travel as doubles or invisible energy body or bodies.  The bodies pass through walls and fly through space.  Most people who have experienced OBE's have said,  "I feel as if my body is leaving my body."  OBE's are scientific factors not proven to real or fake.
 

    "That's de ja vu," is an expression.  You might ask, "What is De Ja Vu?"  De ja vu means seeing before.  For example:  Say you walked into a church for the first time.  You look at the bulletin board, and you think to yourself, "I've seen this picture before, but I've never been in this church!!!"

    That is de ja vu.  It could be a little scary to people.  But to some people it could be exciting.  No one understands what causes de ja vu.  Some people think it is a memory from your past.  More people think de ja vu is a trick of memory.  Some unanswered questions are:  Why do we remember things and forget others?  What happened to your brain when you remember something?  These questions are still unanswered, but scientists hope to answer them soon.
 
 

    Have you ever thought of something that will occur in the future?  Or thought about an old neighbor and bumped into him or her at a restaurant or store?  If you have, you may have had a flash of ESP.

    The letters ESP stand for extrasensory perception.  ESP also means "the known" or sending messages without the ordinary five senses, as in touch, smell, sight, taste, sound. ESP is a mystery someday to be unbroken.
 

    Telekinesis is a word that means moving objects with the mind or the illusion of moving things with the mind.  An example was seen in a souvenir shop in Florida.  Many objects began breaking.  One day a knife fell and almost hit a cashier.  He replaced.  Moments later it fell again.  A worker claimed that it was he that was moving the objects.  But he didn't know how to explain it except that "I just think about it and it happens".  Moving objects with the mind is another mystery to be solved some day.

    What is a psychic?  Well, supposedly, a psychic is a person that has a gift that only some people experience.  There are many different ways you can realize you have psychic abilities.  One way is by having sudden knowledge that some one you love is in trouble, such as being in a car wreck.  You may realize it the moment it happens even though the person is far away..

    Receiving psychic information involves sensing and feeling.  You sense what is happening to someone else in your own body.  You feel the feelings that they have.

    You may see the information visually.  You might see and be able to describe a person even though you have had no contact with the person.  Psychics with this ability have helped police apprehend criminals.  This type of psychic information is called clairvoyance.

    Some psychics hear sounds such as music, train whistle, rain, animals, the ocean, etc.  This type of information is called clairaudience.

    Some psychics feel extra information.  For instance if your friend is excited about going on a skiing trip.  You are excited, too, but suddenly you feel pain going down your leg.  If your friend comes home with a broken leg, you have experienced clairisentience.

    Psychometry is the ability to tell information about someone by holding a related object.  Psychics with this ability have helped to locate lost persons.

     Intuition means just knowing something, without explanation.  You just know it and know that it is true.  For instance, if the phone rings, and you know who it is for sure before you answer it.

    Scientists do not understand these strange abilities.  Maybe some day they will.
 
 

    Ingo Swann is not a swan.  He is an artist who had some experiences with ESP.  In 1973 he said he would take some tests at Stanford University in California.  A red heart-shaped piece of paper was put in a box.  But, you could not see the heart from where you had to sit.  There were letters on the heart in different colors.

    Ingo Swann identified all the words and their colors!  How did he do it?  He said that it was an "out of body experience."  Scientists don't think that you can have an "out of body experience" but many people have claimed to.
 
 

    Uri Geller is a man born on December 26, 1946.  Uri claims he can bend metal objects with the mind, and stop or start a broken clock.  More than 100 people have witnessed Uri do his miracles.  Uri thinks his powers started when he was 3 or 4.  He explains, "I was walking through my garden when all of the sudden a strange light shown on me.  It pushed me down.  That's when I believe my magic began."  Uri claims there are no tricks to go with his miracles.  Uri Geller is a man with powers that are not completely understood by scientists.
