A volcano is created when magma finds a weak spot in the Earth's crust. The magma pushes up through the crust and forms a volcano. The top of the volcano is called the crater. When the magma builds up enough pressure it will push up from the volcano. Then the crater spews lava from the center of the Earth. The lava covers many acres of land destroying homes, animals and plants. After the lava cools it becomes rock and only one type of plant begins to grow. This plant is called "Fireweed." Once the Fireweed starts to grow the animals will come back to eat the plant. Eventually other things will begin to grow too.
Volcanoes are mostly around the Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is a group of volcanoes that go around the Pacific Ocean, there are about 500 volcanoes around the Ring of Fire.
One volcano in Washington didn't erupt lava it erupted an enormous cloud of dust and smoke. After the eruption the town close to the volcano was covered with dust and smoke. Volcanoes still erupt on this planet.
