
The President of the United States of America is the head of Executive Branch. The president is also called the chief executive. The vice president is also part of the executive branch. Another branch is called the executive office of the president.
The powers of the executive branch:
1. The president leads the army, navy, and marine corps.
2. The president decides the leaders of the cabinet.
3. The president can find people not guilty of their crimes.
4. The president can make treaties with other countries if the Senate agrees.
5. The presidents decides who will be ambassadors, Supreme Court Justices, and other officials. The president decides this with the Senate.
6. The president can decide who will replace members of the Senate when they are absent.
7. The president recommends new laws to Congress.
8. The president can call the Senate and the House of Representatives into session.
9. The president can ask representatives and ambassadors from other countries to visit.
10. The president makes sure that laws are carried out.
11. The president decides what people will be officers in the United States.
The Cabinet
The cabinet is made up of department heads of the government.
Department of Agriculture:
The department of agriculture started in 1862. It helps farmers get fair prices for their crops and helps them to sell their crops to other countries. It inspects meat, eggs, and other food products to make sure that they are good quality.
Department of Commerce:
The department of commerce was founded in 1913 to improve the economy. It does research in engineering, science, and other technology. The department also helps small businesses to grow.
Department of Defense:
The Department of Defense started in 1947. It is responsible for providing our military forces needed to protect the United States. It also advises the president on matters involving national defense.
Department of Education:
The Department of Education decides who receives educational assistance. This includes money, advice, and other aid.
Department of Energy:
The Department of Energy was started in 1977. It looks for new ways to use energy and new sources of energy.
Department of Housing and Urban Development:
The Department of Housing and Urban Development was started in 1965. It improved the quality of life for people who lived in America's cities.
