The Turkey Vulture, which is one of America's largest birds of prey, has a length of 32 inches and a wingspan of 6 feet.  Most of his color is brown-black.  Its head is featherless and is red.  It has a white bill and yellow feet when it is an adult.

Turkey vultures are found in all the deserts of the southwest and most of the United States.  They live in dry open country like in ranches and along roadsides.

Vultures are known for feeding on dead animals but they will sometimes attack young animals.  They get a lot of their water from the dead animals and their kidneys let them excrete little water.

Turkey Vultures are protected from diseases by a very good immune system.  The turkey vulture lays one to three eggs but they don't need nests.  They use logs, or cliff hollows, or just the ground.  Vultures have a keen sense of smell.  Vultures are sometimes called buzzards by mistake.
