AUTISM BLINDNESS CEREBRAL PALSY DEAFNESS Alexis's Perspective
This will be my sixth year at Sherwood School and I spent my first year wondering why a student in my class needed special care. When I started kindergarten at Sherwood School there was a girl that stood out. Before I got to know her, I would stare at her because I didn't know why she had special equipment. Her name was Nichole ( not her real name). We became friends over time just by playing together. I noticed she had problems walking and she needed special care and equipment. She had Cerebral Palsy and I had never seen or heard of that disease. I wanted to know what it was like needing special equipment and how difficult it was to do certain things. By being with her I learned a lot. I learned that she is confident.I never thought that Nichole would be able to do the things she does. Nichole can ice skate with equipment, roller blade, ski, and swim. She is the most active disabled person I know. I learned from her that if there is something you really want to do I suggest that you do it. Otherwise you'll never know how it feels to achieve your goals. Since I have been friends with Nichole I have figured out that whatever she wants to do or overcome she will put forth her best effort to do it.
