Young Helen Keller by Anne Benjamin

Young Helen Keller is not only a picture book, it also has great facts. It is a biography that tells about Helen's life from beginning to end and tells how she became blind and deaf. The book has lots of details, and how she helped people by showing how to live with a disability. She became a great woman, and I think you should read this book.

Louis Braille by Stephen Keeler

This picture book is easy to read and has lots of facts. This is a biography of Louis Braille and how a person with a disability made such a great invention that changed the lives of the blind forever. The pictures in this book are colorful and have good detail in them. I recommend this book for readers to read aloud, or silently.

I'm Deaf and It's Okay by Lorraine Aseltine, Evelyn Mueller, and Nancy Tait

I'm Deaf and It's Okay is about a boy who's deaf. This story tells about how the boy lives with his family, who can hear. He soon gets to be jealous of his sister because she can hear and he can't. He talks about how he listens as the teacher is talking by watching the signs. This is a easy-to-read book for teachers to read to younger kids. The reading level is 2-3 grade.

We Can Do It! by Laura Dwight

We Can Do It! is a great way for little kids to understand that other kids with disabilities are almost just the same as you. This is a story about five kids with disabilities that tell things they can do, not what they can't do. This can also teach kids to keep trying and you will succeed. A great educational book to read aloud.

Someone Special Just Like You by Tricia Brown

Photography by Fran Ortiz

Someone Special Just Like You is a wonderful book about how people with disabilities can do many things you and I do. They just do some of them differently. The photos are very good. I recommend this book for ages.

Signing Exact English by Gerilee Gustason, Donna Pfetzing, and Esther Zawolkow, Illustrated by Carolyn B. Norris

This is a book with almost every sign in the whole wide world. From lollipop to gypsy, it's all here! The pictures are very detailed so you know exactly what to do. I recommend this book to anyone who is willing to learn sign language.

CD-ROM Review: The American Sign Language Dictionary by Martin L. A. Sternberg

The American Sign Language Dictionary teaches you how to sign. It has fun games like memory where there is a letter you will click on and you need to find its match. In this CD-ROM you will be able to choose a word and then they will find it for you and sign it. You can choose to make the signer sign slow or fast so you can understand the sign you choose better.

Talking To Angels by Esther Watson

This picture book is about an autistic girl. Written by her sister, this book tells things autistic children like to do. Readers will find that her actions are similar to anyone else's.

Kristy and the Secret of Susan (Baby Sitters Club, No. 32) by Ann. M. Martin

Kristy baby sits for an autistic girl named Susan. She feels that Susan is normal enough to attend school. The book explains Kristy's feelings of how Susan is being treated unfairly just because of her disability.

Just Kids: Visiting a Class for Children With Special Needs by Ellen B. Senisi

This book for ages 9-12 talks about autism, down syndrome, ADHD, epilepsy and more, although it is fiction. It is about a girl who goes to special ed class and befriends some children, even though she had not been looking forward to helping out in the classroom.
