What to look for
When looking for melanoma look for a spot, freckle or mole which
changes shape, thickness or color.
Melanoma is the most dangerous of the three types of skin cancer. The tumor starts as small brown or black marks on the skin. They are hard to distinguish from an ordinary mole and sometimes arise from a mole. Melanoma is a malignancy of the skin in which the melanocytes( the cells which give the skin its color)become cancerous. Melanoma occurs mostly in white people, it is rare in people with dark skin. It usually occurs in adults but is occasionally found in children and adolescents. Younger adults are the most likely to get Melanoma. By the end of the century 1 out of every 75 people will have Melanoma.
