Egyptian hieroglyphics are written in rows or columns. The rows can be written left to right or right to left. The Columns can be written top to bottom. Thus, there are three ways hieroglyphics can be written. They were used for many religious texts on papyrus. Hieroglyphics was mainly written on stone. After a while the Egyptians started changing their writing until a whole new system was born. the new system was called Hieratic.
