Endangered: Animals whose numbers are so low, or whose habitat has been so badly destroyed, that they will become extinct if nothing is done.(IUCN)

This tiger lives in parts of Russia, China, India, and Indonesia. The tiger is very adaptable. They can live in the hot, humid climates or the icy climates of the north. They can to adapt to many environments such as rain forests, dry woods, grasslands, swamps, marshes, or snowy mountains.

Tigers are carnivorous which means they only eat meat. The tiger may go for a week without eating so they may eat up to 55 pounds at one meal. Its main prey is deer, antelope, and wild pigs, but they will eat anything else such as frogs, turtles, fish, birds, water buffalo, elk, rhinoceros, and elephant calves. The tiger will leave parts of the animals for scavengers.

The tiger can be orange with black stripes or white with black stripes. An adult male tiger is usually 11 feet long and 400 pounds, The female is a little smaller, about 8 feet and 300 pounds. The tiger has a retractable claw on both of its front paws. The tiger's eye is not like a cat's eye. It has a huge pupil which allows them to have very good sight although they are color blind.

A male shares his territory, of about 25 square miles, with one or two females. They mark their territory by scraping the bark of trees and using their scent. The tigers are single animals. The only time they come together is to occasionally the share a meal or to mate. The male and female roar back and forth until they find each other. The mother can have up to 6 babies although it is normally only 2 or 3. When they are born, they are blind and weigh around 2 pounds. In 2 weeks they will be able to see. Their mother teaches the everything they need to know before she lets them go out on their on.

The tiger is endangered because of destruction of its habitat and hunting. People hunted them for their skins and trapped them for zoos. Although they are at the top of the food chain, humans still dominate.
