The panda is symbol is the World Wildlife Fund. The World Wildlife Fund raises money for endangered or extinct animals.

The giant panda lives in the bamboo forests in Central China near the border of Tibet. Other animals like deer, leopards, monkeys, and lesser pandas also live in the bamboo forests.

The panda eats grass, roots, bamboo, and meat. The bamboo is a vital food source for the giant panda. Even though pandas eat plants, they also eat meat so it is classified as a carnivore.

Pandas have no regular hours but when they feel tired they just take a snooze wherever. In very bad weather the pandas will look for shelter such as a cave or hollow tree stump.

A panda is not very big for being a giant panda. A male is only 3 feet tall. It weighs about 265 pounds and lives almost 30 years.

The panda has a very important thumb which allows it to pick up food. It is really part of the wrist. It also has five other fingers on each hand.

When in captivity they have a hard time breeding. But breeding in captivity might be the only way to survive. In spring the panda sets out to find a mate. When two males find a female at the same time a "roaring contest" takes place until one backs away.
