   Beware !

These beautiful creatures really are dangerous. The brightly colored skin warns its enemies- "Don't eat me, I'm toxic!"  Some certain animals are not affected, but most small animals can get sick, or even die, if they eat the dart-poison frog. Its poison causes muscles to stiffen, and the animal is suffocated. Native people use the poison on their dart tips for hunting. First they find a dart frog , kill it, and roast it over a fire. The poison glands in the frog's skin sweat tiny drops of the poison. It is collected and kept in a container. People put their dart tips in the poison, and then let it dry.

Many of these little frogs are found in the rain forests of Central and South America. They come in lots of different colors- reds, blues, yellows and greens, with bold patterns of black.
