The
Crested Auklet
The Crested Auklet lives in the north Pacific Ocean and on the islands of the Bering Sea. It belongs to a family called Alcids, with the auks, murres, and puffins. It has a weird hairdo created by the plumes on its head. They are heavy-bodied swimming birds. Their legs are far back. This makes them clumsy on land, but they are graceful in the water. They are strong fliers, and feed by flying in pursuit of fish. Crested Auklets are brownish-black and gray with an orange bill. They have blue-black feet and a wispy fringe of feathers behind each eye. They gather in great colonies of sometimes thousands of birds.
