The Heroic
Era
The
first party to land on the continent beyond the Antarctic Peninsula, was
part of a whaling expedition aboard the Antarctic. Led by Norwegian Henrich
Bull, they rowed ashore at Cape Adare January 1895. A dispute later arose
as to whether it had been Bull or another member of the party, Carstens
Borchgrevink, who had been the first to land.
