•        You need to know the name, address, and telephone number of where you will be baby-sitting. Make sure your parents know where you are.

•             Be sure to know where the parents of the children will be, when to expect them back, and how they could be reached.

•             Know certain telephone numbers. (See Numbers to Know)

•             Before the parent leaves, you need to know all special cares of the children, (medicines, allergies, special fears, etc.)

•               Know the normal routine of the children (mealtimes, snacks, bedtimes, etc.)

•             Make sure the place where you are baby-sitting is secure - all of the doors and windows are locked. DO NOT open the door for anyone unless you were told in advance to expect someone by the parents.

• DO NOT tell any caller that you are baby-sitting and that you are alone with the children. Tell that person on the phone that the parents are busy. Take a message, and tell the caller that you'll have the parents call them back later.

• DO NOT talk to any boyfriends or girlfriends while baby-sitting. DO NOT tie up the phone with any personal calls.

• Watch the children continuously while playing. Check the children every half an hour while sleeping.
