School Nurse
NICOLE : What if I fall down and hurt my leg and nobody is
around,what should I do?
MRS.KUHL: Check your leg for bleeding or pain, if you are
able to move your leg- call for "help" - if able to walk or
scoot for help.
NICOLE: What should you do if a little baby is choking on
something and you don't know what to do?
MRS.KUHL: Check to see if they are coughing, if not
coughing- pick them up- lay over your arm and give 4 blows to
the back below the shoulder blades. Call 911.
NICOLE: What should you do if you're at home and you were
watching a little kid and he was getting really hot and he has
a very high fever? What should you do?
MRS. KUHL: Take his temperture-most of the time a child
with a high fever would be very tired and difficult to arouse
(to wake up) call parents/ doctor for instructions- or call 911
if unable to wake up.
NICOLE: Should you put warm or cold water on a fire burn
and then put a rag on it?
MRS.KUHL: Cold water- submerge the injury in cold water-
not ice- cover with a clean cloth and seek medical
attention.
NICOLE: If someone was outside playing and you got stung by
a bee what should you do?
MRS.KUHL: Remove stinger with fingertips and put ice
directly on area. If allergic to bees call 911.
NICOLE: If someone was having a heart attack what should
you do?
MRS. KUHL: If someone complains of chest pain- call 911
immediately and stay on the phone with them.
NICOLE: What should you do if someone was bleeding to
death? What should you do?
MRS.KUHL: Call 911- put direct pressure with clean cloths
over the area and apply pressure with both hands.
NICOLE: What if someone was going into shock, what should
you do.
MRS.KUHL: Call 911, lay them down- raise lower legs on
pillows or a stool- cover with blanket- keep talking to
them.
NICOLE: What if someone falls off their bike and breaks
both legs and can't walk at all, what should you do?
MRS.KUHL: Call 911 for help- move them if necessary (for
safty reasons)- watch them for shock- If you have to move them
- apply a splint (wood,sticks, magazines,thick blankets, or
pillows- tied around to extremity).
