Geronimo

To the Apaches Geronimo embodied the very essence of the Apache values-- aggressiveness, courage in the face of difficulty. After the white men came, Spainards murdered his wife and young child. He thought it was the white man. He made a vow that he would kill as many white men as he could.

In 1876 the U.S. army tried to move the Chiricahua on a reservation, but Geronimo fled to Mexico eluding the troops for over a decade. Geronimo was the most feared and infamous . It took more than 5,000 troops and 500 scouts to capture Geronimo and his band. The white men said they would go back to Arizona in time. Most of them died on the way to Florida. Geronimo died on a reservation in Oklahoma.
