Water is one of our most important resources.  We drink it.  We wash in it. We cool down in it.  We also have fun in water, but there is a big problem!  Pollution! Pollution is deadly, it kills plants, animals, even us!  Pollution also eats away at the atmosphere.
Oil is one of the most dangerous types of water pollution.  Oil covers birds feathers which makes it hard for them to fly.  Hundreds of birds die or get seriously sick each year due to pollution.  Whales gets oil in their lungs and stomachs from eating oil covered fish, most birds get sick or die from eating the pollutions too.  Dolphins get sick or die the same way as the whales.  Oil kills millions of plants and animals each year.
Everyday people carelessly throw thrash into rivers, lakes, streams, and oceans.  Soda rings are very dangerous.  To people they look harmless, but to fish and birds they are killers. Bird's beaks get caught in soda rings making it hard to breath.  These simple plastic rings kill thousands of fish and birds each year.  Fish gills get trapped in the soda rings which make it hard to breath.  Cans cut fish and birds. Pollution in water is dangerous for plants, animals, and people.
Sewage is another  major problem.  As you know your waste goes down into sewers, but what you may not know is that sometimes waste (not bathroom waste) carelessly pollutes rivers, lakes and streams.  Which may cause many people and animals to get sick or even die if they drink the poisonous water.  The thing is, humans bring it upon themselves. We have big businesses which need to dump their waste. Most carefully dump it is areas designed to handles this waste, but, some dump it in lakes, oceans, streams and rivers and even into our land. This type of waste is called toxic waste.
Underground water is an important source of drinking water.  But people carelessly dump toxic waste on the ground which seeps threw the ground,  goes into the water that is under the ground, some of which we drink. Some of the contaminated water goes into the oceans, and the cycle begins.  The ocean water is evaporated into the atmosphere so when it rains, that water, which has toxic pollution in it, falls down to the ground and the ground sucks it up and goes into the underground water supply. This is called a cycle or circle, it means that things keep going and going.

Here is a list of things that cause underground water pollution.

        • car oil
        • road salt
        • gas leaks
        • septic tanks
        • pesticides
        • fertilizers
        • manure
        • waste dumpers
        • land fill
What can you do to help?

        • You should always conserve water. Remember, water is a very important resource.
        • You should take ten minute showers, instead of baths, plant tress along gutter lines.
        • When you wash your car, use a spray nozzle instead of a plain water hose and turn the water all the way off so that it doesn't drip.
        • When you brush your teeth, get your tooth brush wet and then turn off the water.
        • When you need to rinse and wash your mouth out turn the water down and after your finished turn off the water.
        • When you wash dishes have on side of the sing for washing the dishes and have one side for rinsing, but fill the side you are using for rinsing only half way full.
        Remember keep water clean.
So we can live in a better world.
