General Chameleon Care Page
Feeding:
Adults will eat on a daily basis. If an adult doesn't finish its serving of insects, don't add any more for your chameleon to consume the following day. Once a day, servings should be offered ranging between 5 and 10 insects. Leading to constipation is letting a chameleon gorge itself, other effects include: certain health concerns and rapid growth. You shouldn't let your chameleon gorge, as you know it doesn't lead to something pretty.
With babies they will eat about 3-5 crickets each and every day. Some young may even eat more, some will eat less. Of course as you can see adults eat more than babies. Don't try to feed a baby an adult serving or an adult size crickets. And do not give a mature adult a baby size feeding, this will lead to starvation.
Chameleons should also have a changing diet. Some other insects besides crickets that provide nutrients are:
*grasshoppers
*house flies
Different methods of feeding should be taken into mind, for chameleons may not go for the dish feeding method. Other will take on the hand feeding method. These methods will rely on the species of chameleon you own as a pet.
Vitamins and minerals are also important to keep your chameleon healthy. If your chameleon is looking small and skinny, (which means lack of vitamins and minerals) go buy a vitamin supplement to help out your chameleon with it's growth. Miner-All is a recommended supplement that works well. Also before buying a mineral supplement check the ingredients to make sure there is nothing that can harm the chameleon inside.
Hydration:
A lot of these animals die because of lack of water in captive habitat. The most important part of caring for a chameleon is hydration. Chameleons that are properly hydrated will thrive. All organs will function and skin will look smooth if a chameleon is hydrated properly. You should provide chameleons running water. Also chameleons can be misted using a spray bottle, or misting system , for they can drink through there skin. Dehydration will lead to many health concerns. Also you can get a small or large drip system with an adjustable valve.
Some signs of dehydration are:
*dry, collapsed eyes}
*dry, wrinkled skin}signs lead to upper respiratory infections
*abnormal shedding}
