Greek And Roman
The Roman style of clothing was most remembered for its beautifully cut and often patterned clothing. Men wore loin cloth, under an apron,a tight girdle and high boots of fine leather. Helmets were decorated and crested. The upper torso's of women were normally bared; later, the fashion consisted of tight waist bindings. A series of aprons which resembled long skirts and the exposure of breasts in a tight bodice frame. Capes were worn with high stand up collars, hoods were horned, circular, or worn in turban arrangements over a long, often snake like hair dressings.
The most common garment of early Greece was the chiton worn by both men and women. This clothing draped over the body to cover the left arm and leave the right arm free. another garment of Greece was the himation, it was colored and sometimes embroidered. It was worn over the women's chiton; men often wore it as a sole garment.
The chlamys, was a short oblong mantle {covering} which was fastened at the right shoulder, and was usually worn by horsemen and later by young men of all classes. In Rome the tunicawas the common clothing style. The toga , a long , sweeping, semi-circular drape, which was worn on important occasions. Later, the women's toga was replaced by the palla, which was, before, the Greek himation. The pallium, also simillar to the himation was worn over the toga.
