Since the climate in Egypt was very warm, nakedness was very common, and modesty did not exist. The basic fabric was linen. The garments most of the time were white or light colored. Clothing of the poorer classes was often more basic. King's garments were often decorated with gold. With the time period changing, the loincloth developed into a tight skirt called the kalasiris. Women wore tight fitting sheaths from the breast to their ankles, which were attached to their shoulders by straps. Working women might wear a short kalasiris. Servants were usually naked. In Egypt, after the 18th dynasty {1580-1350b.c} more attention was payed to appearance. An age of luxury over- shadowed the simple clothing that had happened earlier. Flowing sleeves, pleated skirts, and the sheer cape were introduced. In this time period, bold primary colors were used and with sheep came woolen clothing.
