Hello, my name is Ivan Kuskov and I'm 22 years old. I was sent to find the land where Fort Ross is today. People know me to be brave and adventurous. I have thin blond hair and a tall stance. The trip to Fort Ross was long and tiresome...

It was when I got to sea, everything got bad. I kept getting seasick and I never had anything to do on the trip. I traveled only with a guide. There was one night I could never forget. It was raining, and the sea was rough. At one point, I almost thought the boat would tip! The sail was wrecked and there was a hole in the ship. I went to go patch the hole while the guide was trying to fix the sail. The water was up to my waist and the ship was sinking. Luckily, I got to the hole in time so the ship wouldn't sink. By that time, there was a half year left of the long journey but I was as bored as ever by then. I couldn't sleep because the boat wouldn't stop rocking back and forth. So as you could see, that would be pretty annoying after a while. Also, there was a noise of the boat creaking like the noise when you walk down an old house's stairs.

Once I got to land I was so glad to get off that boat! Immediately, I set up camp. The next day I went off exploring for a good piece of land to make the fort that took a few days, but when I found the land I wanted, I knew it would be perfect!

Now let me tell you about my friend Alexander Baranov. We first met when I was helping him start settlements in Alaska. He led hunting parties along the coast of Alaska . Baranov and I liked to hunt during our free time. We both liked hunting a lot. Mostly we would fish. One time we caught a twenty-five pound fish. It put up a big fight, but we still caught it.
