On the road to the Chesapeake Bay!

Barred Owl: This is the largest one in the bottom of the swamp.  This owl is very commonly seen in the bay area.

Wood Peckers: These are birds are around the swampy area of the swamp year-round.  The woodpeckers eat insects in dead trees.  Unlike regular birds these birds live in many dead trees and live trees year-round.

Ruby Throated Hummingbird:  To see these birds you must see them in the spring and sometimes in the summer because it doesn't hibernate in the spring, and its red colored throat is a lot more red this it was before.

Arcadian Flycatcher: This bird nests in swamps lots of time and in trees.  It is the type of green when grassed died.
 
Gray Catbird: This bird mews instead of chirping.  It is found in the winter when all the other birds are hibernating.  This bird is easy to see if your in a swamp.

Red eyed Vireo: This bird is seen more in the spring and in the fall rather than  summer and winter because it has nice weather and less storms.  Its nests are on long branches and hold for a long time.


We travel Route 50 east from school to the Chesapeake Bay.

Virgian Opossum:  These are find almost everywhere in local swamps and around bays.  Its tail is naked and doesn't have any fur on its tail.  Related to a regular possum.

Marsh Rabbit: This rabbit is the only mammal in the Chesapeake Bay that doesn't go to swamps or marshes.  It feeds at night on grass and some flower.

Muskrat:  It is a tiny furry creature found in ponds, river and swamps.  Their houses are made of mud and grass.  They are very common in the bay area.

Beaver:  These small brown creatures in the Chesapeake Bay make dams to live in.  They are commonly seen in the water, but they are a land creature.

Otter: They are like a seel, but on the land instead of the water, well mostly.  Their feet are webbed so that they can swim to get fish to eat.  They eat frogs and lots of other water animals.


We pay a $2.50 toll to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Raccon: Is a animal that likes to scaveng for food in the local's tents or houses.  It is a
 animal with a unusuall talent because it is clever.  It has a stripe tail that lots of people around the bay see.

Red Fox: Is a regular fox with a big bushy tail thats red and black.  Its legs are small and black.  It perfers to live in the up part of the bay.

White-tailed Deer: It is best known because of its upright legs and hooves.  The female's have 1-2 babies in spring.  These are regular deers, but they scanvege.
 
Swans:  the swans are a graceful creature.  They visit the bay rarely, but it has visit lots of times.  It might be seen coming in from Canada and the North.

Bald Eagle: This is a large bird of prey that attacks lots of fish.  Scientist found out that the Bald Eagle is a distant realtive to the valture.  It is bald on top.  It hunts rats and fish.

Seagull: These birds havng around the bay for free food if the visitors are willing to give it up.  These go out to ocean to die.  They are almost white all over.
