Peggy

One of the most famous animals of the war was Peggy, a British Army mule. She has a very famous epitaph on her grave, in Italy, that was printed in Time magazine. It read:

"In memory of Peggy, who in her lifetime kicked one brigadier, two colonels, four majors, ten captains, twenty-four lieutenants, forty-two sergeants, sixty corporals, 436 other ranks, and one bomb."

We don’t know what the British Army would have done without her. R.I.P., Peggy.
