Pearl Harbor:
You live in Hawaii. It is the morning of Saturday, December 6, 1941. Your father just told you to go out on the front porch and pick up today’s newspaper. As you walk to the front door where you will find the newspaper, you begin to wonder how the British are doing in the war that is taking place. You remember from the news last night, that people have started to call the war "The War to End all Wars." As you get out to get the newspaper, you notice that the headline states: "JAPAN CAN’T COMPRMISE ANYMORE." You wonder what it means. So you go inside and begin reading the article. This is what it reads: Hirohito claims that he can’t work with the United States anymore. He claims that we are standing in the way of "new order in East Asia." Secretary Hull said that the document received from the Japanese were "falsehoods and distortions." You begin to worry about what the Japanese can do to the U.S. You think about this question all day. Finally it’s 8:00 pm, and time for bed since there is church tomorrow. Even though church doesn’t start until 10:30 am, your parents want you to go to bed early. You usually sleep in, but a loud BOOM awakens you. You run into your parents’ room to investigate. You find out that the Japanese have started to bomb the U.S., and other U.S. islands. After the day is over, you go to bed. The next morning you wakeup early and go to get the paper. You found out that nearly 2,800 people were killed in 2 hours because of the surprise attack. The U.S. is now in World War II. You can’t believe it. Watching the news you see the effects of this horrible battle.
