      Your nerve cells are made of a central portion called the nucleus
      and axons and dendrites. The nucleus is the cell body. The
      dendrites are short extensions of the cell body. They are
      involved in the reception of stimuli. The axons are usually
      single long extensions.
       
      The Nervous System in Different Animals
       
      In simple animals like jellyfish, the nerve cells form a network.
      This network is capable of mediating only a stereotyped
      response. Animals like shellfish, spiders, and insects have
      more complex nervous systems.
