One day Bill and his family were moving. As his family crossed Pecos River, Pecos Bill fell out of their covered wagon. Some time had passed before his family realized that he was missing. It was too late for them to find him. Bill was raised by wolves of the wild, and had no idea that he was a human until he was told by a man.Later, Bill became the toughest cowboy around. Bill had a reputation for killing criminals in certain towns, fighting snakes and lions ,and winning. He was so tough that he was appointed "boss" of a town. It was said that Pecos Bill could ride anything, even a cyclone. When Bill got on the back of that cyclone it did some bucking and all sorts of moves trying to get Bill off his back. When the cyclone realized that it could not get Bill off he rained from under Bill.It is also said that Bill was thrown down in the spot in California that is now called Death Valley, and that you can still see the prints that his hip-pockets left behind. |
