We picked the Civil War of the United States because it was one of the
most important wars in our country's history. We also picked it because
our team liked this part of United States history.
The Civil War began in 1861 when the Confederacy (South) fired at Fort
Sumter. Then in 1865, the bloodiest battle was fought -- Gettysburg.
On April 9, 1865, at Appomattox Court House, Robert E. Lee surrendered
to Ulysses S. Grant. The bloody Civil War finally came to an end.
