VV People's Thoughts and Opinions After looking at this site, you probably want to know what other people think about the rain forest. Do they want to save it? What are their ideas about saving the rain forest? What interests them most about the rain forest? Do they even care? Well, we thought the same thing while making this site. So, we gave 18 people of different ages the same poll. We gave them to relatives, friends, classmates... Now, you can see what other people think about the rain forest. 6-10 year olds- -Is it o.k. for the rain forest to be destroyed? Why or why not? All people in this age group did not think it was O.K. for the rain forest to be destroyed. Why? important medicines come from the rain forest, it supplies a lot of oxygen, the animals and trees will be destroyed - What interests you most about the rain forest? nature, animals - How do you think we can help save the rain forest? do not use much paper, gather seeds from the rain forest plants and plant them 11-18 year olds- - Is it o.k. for the rain forest to be destroyed? Why or why not? 25% of people in this age group said it was o.k. to destroy the rain forest. 75% said it was not o.k. Why is it o.k.? cutting down the trees (of the rain forest) is "cool" Why is it not o.k.? the rain forest is a beautiful place, we will live longer if we let it grow (supplies us with oxygen), helpful medicines come from it, if we destroy, there may be helpful plants that supply us with medicines that we will never have a chance to discover, the animals will die, the animals will not have a home -What interests you most about the rain forest? The majority said animals, but some wanted to know about the environment in general. - How do you think we can help save the rain forest? make a law to prevent the cutting down of trees, use alternative building materials, plant new trees, use less paper, recycle 19-40 year olds- -Is it o.k. for the rain forest to be destroyed? Why or why not? 100% said it was not o.k. to destroy the rain forest. Why? produces a lot of the world's oxygen, the plants may be used to make useful medicines. many species of plants and animals are found only in small areas of the rain forest -What interests you most about the rain forest? the many plants, the many animals, the stable climate -How do you think we can help save the rain forest? We can create industries (and jobs) for the people in those countries with rain forests. This will encourage the protection, not destruction, of the rain forest. 41-60 year olds- -Is it o.k. for the rain forest to be destroyed? Why or why not? 100% of people in this age group said it was not o.k. to destroy the rain forest. Why? it is important to the entire planet, the destruction upsets the ecosystem, valuable resources will be lost forever, the destruction not only hurts the plants and animals that live there, but the people as well, it can not be replaced, most of Earth's biodiversity (variety of plants and animals) is in the rain forest, it is a place for many unusual plants and animals to live -What interests you most about the rain forest? its entire ecosystem, much of which is still not understood, the people and their culture, the variety of ferns, the many plants, future medicine possibilities, the great beauty and mystery, the animals -How do you think we can help save the rain forest? do not buy products from companies that are destroying the rain forest (make it so that companies can not make money from destroying the rain forest), public awareness of the imporatance of the rain forest, educate people about the rain forest and the threats of cutting it down, help the people who live in the rain forest, discourage others from cutting down trees Back to Just for You
