As you already know, the rain forest has four layers. This is a diagram of these layers.
Emergent Layer:
- few very tall trees called emergents- up to 200 ft. tall
Canopy:
- made of leaves on trees that are between 130 and 164ft. tall- gets almost all of sunlight
Understory:
- small, young trees (no taller than 66 ft.)- shady; very little sunlight
Forest Floor:
- dark- very little grows here
- always covered with fallen leaves, twigs, flowers, animal remains and droppings
