The rain forest is a beautiful ecosystem full of plants and animals. It covers less than seven percent of the world's land surface,but holds at least half of the world's species of plants. Click here to see a map! The tropical rain forest's average temperature ranges from 73'F to 87'F. The rain forest has two major seasons. One is the dry season, which lasts three months, or sometimes more. In this season the trees shed their leaves. The other major season is the monsoon or wet season. The average rainfall is about 98 inches of rain per year. Some of the trees in the rain forest can be as high as a 17-story building. The rain forest is made of four layers.
