America's
Support
in the Vietnam War

The Vietnam War is the most debated war in United States history. It is also the only war we have ever lost. In the beginning there was a lot of popular support for U.S. involvement because people thought of it as a war against communism. Eventually, popular support declined because it seemed like a civil war in which the U.S. had no business. There was a lot of disagreement about this war in America, which led some to move from acts of civil disobedience to violent demonstrations on college campuses and majorities.
