A sponge is a very colorful plant.  There are more than 5,000 species of sponges.  Most of the sponges live in oceans, such as the Purple Tube Sponge, Sulfur Sponge, Purple Vase Sponge, Fluorescent Sponge, Sheepswool Sponge, Red Encrusting Sponge, Yellow Tube Sponge, White Encrusting Sponge, Pink-Tube Sponge, Red Beard Sponge, Golf Ball Sponge, Purple Encrusting Sponge, and much, much more.  They reproduce both sexually and asexually.  In sexual reproduction, a new sponge develops from the joining of two sex cells.  In asexual reprodution, a new sponge is formed by methods that do not involve sex cells.  Most sponges also have the ability to replace lost or injured parts.  This process is called regeneration.
