The U.S.S. Maine was a battleship.  It is thought that it ran into a water mine off Havana on February 15, 1889. This made everyone in the United States angry and this event started the Spanish American War. Today, the foremast stands at the U.S.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
