The Hobbit Hole
Welcome To Words and Tolkien!
This site will be for little
Hobbits and big Hobbits. Three little hobbits, er humans, have created a web page that
incorporates J.R.R. Tolkien and his love for words. On your quest here, you will
find information about Tolkien and how his love for words inspired him to create a
world--the Middle Earth--where he invented words to describe the people of Middle
Earth. You will also discover where many of our words come from, how they have been
used in the past, and how they change meaning over time. When you discover parts of
words, maybe you can discover meanings of words, or maybe you can make up your
own. We have pages about root words, prefixes, and suffixes. We have
descriptions and examples of how words are used. We have word games, and games you
can make up with words. We will also help you connect with other people who
love Tolkien's books like we do.
This is the Hobbit Hole. (Our Home Page) You can go through one of the doors below to one of our rooms.
Words from Tolkien
The Road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began, Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursing
it with weary feet, Until it joins some larger
way, Where many paths and errands meet,
And whither then? I cannot say.
"He (his uncle, Bilbo Baggins, of The Hobbit) used often to say there was only one Road; that it was like a great river: its springs were at every doorstep, and every path was its tributary. It's a dangerous business...going out of your door. You step into the Road, and if you don't keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.
We hope you enjoy your journey....
