Space Terms!

Ablatin- is the melting away of a spacecrafts heat shield durimg reentry.

Aerospace- includes the atmosphere and the regions of space beyond it.

Aphilelion- is the point farthest from the sun in the orbit of the lunar satellite.

Apocynthion- is the point farthest from the moon in the orbit of the lunar satellite.

Apogee- is the point farthest from earth in the earth of an earth satellite.

Artificial satellite- is a space craft that circles the earth or other celestial bodies. The term is usually shortened to satellite, but then it also applies to the natural moons.

Astro- is a prefix meaning star, it also means space in such words as astronautics ( the science of space lights).

Astronaut- is a United States space pilots.

Gantry-is a special crane or mouble tower used to service launch vehicles.

Heat Sheild-is a covering on a spacecraft to protect the craft and astronaut from high
temperatures of reentry.

Hypergol-consits of propellants that ignite wjhen mixed together.

LOX or Liguid Oxegen- is a common oxidzer. It is made by cooling oxegyn to -183 celsius (-297 farinighte)

Module- is a singal section of a space-craft that can be disconnected and seperated from other sections.

Orbit- is a path of a satillite in relation to the object around which it revolves.

Oxidizer- is a substance that mixes with the fuel in a rocket, that furnishes oxegen that permits the fuel to burn

Pericynthion- is the point closest to the moon in the orbit of a luner satillite.

Perigee- is the point closest to the Earth in the orbit of an Earth satillite.

Period- is a time it takes for a satellite to make one revolution.

Proplellant- is a substance burned in a rocket to produce thrust, propellants include fuel and oxidizers.

Reentry- is the part of the flight when a returning spacecraft begins to descend into the atmosphere.

Revolution- is one complete circle of a heavenly body, or an artificial satellite in it's orbit.

Spacecraft- is an artificialy created object that travels through space

Stage- is one of two or more rockets combined to form a launch vehical.

Thrust- is the push given to a rocket by it's engines.
